bdPOD :: Bangladesh Search Engine and Web Directory started its journey with a goal to be one of the largest and most comprehensive search engines and web directories primarily on things related to Bangladesh and Bengali (also known as Bangla) language for users across the world.  

bdPOD’s history goes back to 1997 when its founder first came up with the idea of indexing major Bangladesh related sites.  Back in the early days of the Internet, the number of websites on Bangladesh were few and it was not very difficult to list the major sites on just a few static pages.  You may remember Index of Bangladesh Related Websites which was a static website with links to Bangladesh related websites that bdPOD’s founder put together and that’s when bdPOD started its journey.  However, the number of websites on Bangladesh from personal to business to academic to government has quadrupled since 1997 and bdPOD went live in early 2005 with suite of software and services to tackle this large task of crawling the web and indexing Bangladesh related sites.  

bdPOD uses in-house developed software as well as software developed by other vendors to crawl the web to build its content database.  It also uses content cleaner software to present the content in the best possible format.  bdPOD is updated frequently.  Dead links can be annoying; bdPOD automatically removes these dead and bad links periodically by using our in-house software.  Quality and comprehensiveness of the content is very important to bdPOD to ensure reliability and effectiveness.  This project is a work in progress and probably always will be to keep in pace with the technology changes and make it even better for our users.
